The do’s and don’ts of branded merchandise marketing – Part 2

Following on from the things to do to create a successful promotional product marketing campaign, here are some points on what could make your campaign fail or, what not to do.

The don’ts

Don’t leave it too late to order your products

Promotional products can take a little time to produce. If you want the best products, it is essential to understand that they need to be designed, approved, produced, branded and distributed out to you or your customers and this can take a while.

You will need to leave a fair amount of time to make decisions. If you are picking promotional pens as your product of choice your will need to consider the following:

· What colour ink do you want the base of your pen to be?

· How many colours are in your logo as this may affect the time it takes to brand the item?

· Do I want a rollerball or a ballpoint pen?

· Plastic or metal material?

These are just a few of the questions to consider before an order can start to be generated, so make sure enough time is left to respond to these queries. On average from design to delivery an item could take 10-15 working days.

Don’t think of cost as the only factor

The cost of the promotional items that you want to purchase is important, especially if your marketing budget is tight but, it isn’t the only factor you should consider. If your budget can stretch to higher cost and higher specification branded merchandise, then go for it but, it is much more vital to consider how useful the product is, will it stand out in your customers minds and help to spread the word about your business?

Don’t forget to follow up with your customers

Once you have given out your gifts, its always an ideal gesture, to see how your customers are getting on with your giveaways a few weeks down the line. If you have gifted a large bundle of promotional items to your clients, it’s a good idea to keep in touch and make sure your clients are happy. This keeps the lines of communication going and will help build your business relationship for the future.
