A great deal of plastic is thrown away in rubbish bins daily and can take up to 1000 years to decompose. This is an outrageous fact and highly damaging to the environment. Some plastics can release harmful chemicals into the surrounding soil, which can then flow into groundwater or other surrounding water sources and then into the ecosystem. This can cause serious harm to many different species that consume the water.
