The Promotional Baseball Cap


A baseball cap is a type of soft cap with a curved crown and a rigid peak protruding in front. When first invented, the front of the cap was generally used to advertise the name of a sports team, or the sponsors of a game. Now caps are used as a marketing tool, to promote products and services, as well as still being a big star in the sporting world.

The history of the baseball cap.

The baseball cap was invented in the 1800’s when the Brooklyn Excelsiors baseball team wore the very first type of cap, the ancestor of the modern rounded-top baseball cap. This cap featured a long peak to keep the sun from the players’ eyes. The caps were made to fit individual players heads, with a few adjustable caps that could fit any head size available for team mates without a measured hat.

Spectators saw the cap being worn and by 1900, the baseball cap was popular with both players and the sports observers.

In the 1940’s, rubber was used to stiffen the caps and the modern baseball cap as we know it was born.


Snapback caps

The adjustable baseball caps that were used to fit any head size within the sport, inspired the invention of the Snapback cap, a cap with a flat rim and a plastic adaptable strap that “snapped” into place at the back.

The snapback became increasingly popular in the 1980’s, throughout the 90’s and to this day, the cap is still incredibly fashionable.
